Prepositions (Präpositionen) in German indicate time, place, or relationships between elements in a sentence.
They can govern the Akkusativ, Dativ, or both (Wechselpräpositionen).

1. Prepositions with Akkusativ

These prepositions always take the Akkusativ case.

Preposition	Meaning	Example
durch	through	Ich gehe durch* den Park.* (I walk through the park.)
für	for	Das Geschenk ist für* dich.* (The gift is for you.)
gegen	against, around (time)	Er ist gegen* den Plan.* (He is against the plan.)
ohne	without	Ich gehe ohne* dich.* (I go without you.)
um	around, at (time)	Wir sitzen um den Tisch. (We sit around the table.)

These prepositions always take the Dativ case.

Use Akkusativ if there is movement, Dativ for position.
